Melissa Hosten

Director, Center for Recruitment and Retention of Mathematics Teachers

Melissa Hosten has worked in education for more than 25 years, currently as a Co-Director at the University of Arizona Center for Recruitment and Retention of Mathematics Teachers, and formerly at the Maricopa County Education Service Agency, the Arizona Department of Education, and various school districts. Melissa's research interests lie in equitable access to data science experiences for all children situated in relevant contexts from their lives and from industry. Melissa specializes in the areas of equity and access, especially post-pandemic access. She has led large scale curriculum development projects for the state and multi-state programs, especially incorporating gamification as a learning and teaching strategy. She received the Copper Apple Award for Leadership in Mathematics, Arizona Mathematics Leaders (AML) Leadership Award, and University of Arizona Team Excellence Award for service to Southern Arizona.
